A sofa should fit the room, the people and the doorway — in that order.
For most living rooms a sofa between 72 and 90 inches wide seats three comfortably. Keep it roughly two-thirds the length of the wall it sits against, and allow 30 inches or more of walkway around it. Seat depth matters as much as width: 21–22 inches suits upright sitting and smaller rooms; 24 inches and deeper is for lounging and taller households.
Check the arm height against a side table (they read best within a couple of inches of each other) and the back height against windows behind it. Before you order, measure the narrowest door, hallway turn and stairwell: delivery is to your doorstep, so the sofa needs a clear path in.
We use the same sofas when we stage homes across Bergen County and the Jersey Shore, so you will find pieces that photograph well and hold up to visitors. Everything listed as in stock ships from New Jersey in 7–10 business days, with free delivery on orders of $1,500 or more.
